It is a truism that changing residences in the physical world consists of a ton of frenzied preparation against a deadline, a one time shift of all of our belongings, and then a long, leisurely unpacking process… unless, of course, you are one of those people who was born to relocate – and then you probably have it down to a system.
Changing residence on the Internet is a bit harder though. While it can be done in stages – altogether too often people drop by the new place before we’ve even figured out where the boxes that need to be in our metaphorical kitchen are and we can’t even offer them a nice, cool drink and a box to sit on.
Sometimes we find ourselves so caught up in repainting and making the space ready that we forget that the important parts are still elsewhere. While making our bloggy dens the exact right hue of teal with muted accents, we completely ignore the fact that it’s what is in a house that make it a home.
This is my new home.
As of today? There are tarps on the floors and walls half-painted. The boxes haven’t even been loaded on the truck yet and the mail isn’t forwarded. But the electricity and water are on. If you don’t mind sitting on the floor for a bit, I’ll chat with you and we can order a pizza for delivery. But I hope you don’t mind that while we do? I’ll be trying to get the paint finished and the curtains up.
After all, I’m moving this weekend and there’s a lot to do before then!
L.
